Meet Tahlia –
She may be just 17 but this Bunbury swimmer is making waves in both the pool and open water.
Now in her third season of open water, she’s currently coming second in her leaderboard category with some seriously impressive swims.
When did you start open water swimming?
I started competing in the Open Water Swimming Series in 2013, but my first open water swim was the Busselton Jetty Swim in a team in 2010.
How often do you train?
I train 7 times a week morning and night with Bunbury Swimming Club.
Most memorable swimming experience?
Definitely my solo Rottnest crossing in February 2016.
What’s your pre-race ritual?
I don’t really have a pre-race ritual, but I am always applying sunscreen to myself and testing the temperature of the water.
Is there anything you find challenging about open water?
Going into a swim not knowing what to expect with the current, weather conditions and especially stingers (thank goodness we haven’t experienced them so far this year).
What’s been your favourite event this season?
Round 4 Busselton because of the amazing conditions and that allowing me to get the qualifying time for nationals.
