What made you sign up for your first open water swim?

I wanted to get back to fitness and triathlons quickly after having had my second daughter. I did my first 5km at Cottesloe and loved it, it was challenging but a great feeling when I crossed the finish line.

Since then I’ve done a lot more events. I always aim for new PBs and it’s great meeting new people and making friends each season.

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming season?

Lots of open water swimming in a family friendly environment. My daughters always have fun while watching me from the beach.

What’s your favourite hobby outside of swimming?

This year I competed in the Ironman World Champs in Kona, Hawaii. It was an amazing experience and something I’ve had as a goal for a long time. It was a dream come true to qualify and I was so excited to compete and of course to finish with a good time.

What do you do to relax?

Does triathlon count as relaxation?

Aside from that stretches and baking with my daughters.

What’s been your biggest challenge with open water?

Embracing the swim start (I am now enjoying it) and getting used to how much quicker it is compared to triathlon swims. The more races I do the more comfortable I become and I feel better about taking on the different conditions.

How do you prepare for open water swims?

I mainly train in the pool and look forward all week for the open water swims (I just love them).
