What made you sign up for your first open water swim?

I loved doing surf club when I was younger and I also love the ocean. I was already a distance swimmer in the pool, so distance wasn’t a issue.

Favourite swimming memory?

Was doing the Cottesloe Mile and my friend was drafting off me the whole way until I got stuck behind an old man and she overtook me and stole my medal and prize, but it was so funny and great conditions (NO STINGERS WOOHOO!)

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming season?

Im looking forward to trying a 10km, so I can challenge myself and have a greater chance at medalling at nationals

Who do you swim for?

I swim for Perth City. My club is really strong in numbers for the open water events. It makes it a lot more fun knowing your friends are always with you and adds some more friendly competition.

What’s been your biggest challenge with open water?

I find the most challenging is seaweed and jellyfish which are my greatest fears. As well as keeping focus while swimming and trying to stay and understand the pack.

How do you prepare for open water swims?

My friends and I do our normal arm swings and land warmup and go for a quick swim to the first bouy and back just before our swim so we are ready to go fast (I recommend for non regular swimmers), then we put on our and sun-cream and get ready to swim fast.

Where is you dream swimming destination?

Would have to be Hawaii a nice ocean floor to keep myself busy and no weird things floating in the water
