What made you sign up for your first open water swim?

I watched my husband and some AUSSI club friends compete in the 1979 Rotto Swim Thru and decided I was going to try to compete the following year after the birth of my first daughter..

Favourite swimming memory?

Finishing the 400 Individual Medley at the 2008 Fina World Masters in Perth. Not last,  not disqualified and faster than I entered and only swimmer not wearing full length racing bathers.

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming season?

Improving my times and a season of no stingers!

About 15 of my fellow club members train 3 times a week and compete with me every weekend in the OWS series – followed by breakfast.

What’s your favourite hobby outside of swimming?

Playing pennant squash.

What do you do to relax?  

Making strange pottery creations with 2 other friends.

What’s been your biggest challenge with open water? 

To maneuver around the marker buoys and finish in the middle of the field.

What are your goals with open water? 

Busselton Jetty solo swims.

How do you prepare for open water swims? 

Training in an indoor 25m heated pool 40kms away from the ocean is not the best preparation for OWS. However, those added challenges make the luxury of an open water swim very manageable and all our club members are very competitive in their age groups.

Where is you dream swimming destination?

The Greek Islands are very special but I think Rottnest is the best destination in the world.
